I chose to work in the Disaster Relief Clinic at Touro Law Center because a home is where dreams are made, values are learned, and love is shared. I was truly blessed to not have been affected by Sandy, and I was surprised that in 2016 so many were still recovering. I wanted to help those individuals reclaim their lives, which starts with having a roof over their heads.
My semester in the Clinic was one of the most exciting and memorable experiences that I had during law school. Under the tutelage of Professor Luckman, I compiled and submitted claims to FEMA on behalf of Long Island residents and able to contribute to the recovery of funds for those continuing rebuild. I also learned a great deal about the laws that govern national disasters and recovery assistance. It was a great learning experience that took me beyond my what I already knew about Sandy and disasters. I am glad that I was able to assist in the recovery effort.
