Attorney at Petrasek Law, PLLC
I was very involved in both the ABA YLD and the Washington State YLD. Around 2009, the ABA YLD public service project was “Serving Our Seniors,” a teaching Will clinic where “new” estate planning attorneys are paired up with “experienced” estate planning attorneys. I was president of the WYLD in 2010 and implemented this project in Washington, particularly in the county I work in. Snohomish County Legal Services (just north of Seattle) did not have a Will clinic. I spoke with them, and since 2010, I have been the lead attorney in putting on quarterly Will clinics at SCLS. We draft Wills, Health Care Directives, and Power of Attorney documents for low income seniors. I have also taken pro bono estate planning cases for other clients who are low income and need estate planning assistance. We usually have a waiting list due to the popularity of this clinic. It is so rewarding to help those people who are the most vulnerable ensure their estate will be taken care of upon their death. They are so incredibly appreciative of the work we do for them. Doing work that I love (estate planning) and helping those who need help the most: priceless.
